Soundtrack of My Life: Vol.1, ep.2

Outkast – Player’s Ball (1993)

Outkast - Player's Ball

Sophomore year in high school. I don’t remember how or where I first heard Outkast, but this was their first single. To me, Big Boi and Andre 3000 really set a great tone for hip hop coming out of the Dirty South and the ATL, right alongside So So Def’s artist roster. Their sound was really unique, laid back, street…cool; not the Outkast you know today. (sorry, the YouTube clip isn’t embeddable)

I think I used to sit around at my boy, Eddie’s pad, both of us just boppin’ our heads to this groove. Nothing too memorable, but Eddie always sings along when this plays on the radio. I think I like some of the other songs off Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik more.

I guess I was a couple years too young to know early Outkast! I loved the ATLiens album, but the first group that put the dirty south on the map for me was Goodie Mob!
